Woman Finds Scared Dog Near River With 13lb Anchor Tied To His Neck

Animal welfare advocates are constantly subjected to stories about pets that are mistreated in awful ways. This story just might take the cake, though. Abandonment is common and most of us are able to handle stories like these. What this owner decided to do to their dog goes above and beyond. We cannot begin to fathom this person’s (or persons) level of cruelty.

Audra Petraškienė is a Lithuanian woman who was out for an innocent drive one day. She saw a dog stranded by the side of the road. The animal also had a large box around their neck. It did not take long for the woman to figure out exactly what was going on. Someone had clearly tried to drown this dog and had fashioned a makeshift anchor to “aid” them in this process.

We are not sure how this dog managed to avoid a watery grave. It must have taken a great deal of persistence. The owner did not want the animal to live. He survived against all odds and was fortunate to be found by Audra. “The dog was scared and shaking as well,” says Andra, Audra’s daughter. It has to be hard to trust humans when they have treated you this poorly.

He probably thought that Audra was going to be the next human to try and hurt him. She was not going to let any more harm come to this dog, though. The animal was taken back to her house for some much-needed care before heading to the vet’s office. The dog’s fighting spirit impressed mother and daughter. They could not believe that he was able to survive.

The dog’s survival is nothing short of a miracle. There are not many animals that could have triumphed over such adversity. Eventually, Audra was able to get in contact with someone who claimed to be the dog’s owner. As it turns out, this animal was the victim of a revenge plot gone horribly wrong. The owner’s neighbor was responsible for the theft.

We are glad that Audra took the necessary steps to protect the dog from further harm. Why someone would use an innocent animal to try and get “revenge” on a neighbor is beyond our comprehension. Rest assured, the dog is in safe hands as the authorities try to piece this awful puzzle together. Kudos to Audra for taking the time to assist a wounded animal who was in serious need.
