Payless Opened A Fake Luxury Shoe Store And Tricked Women Into Paying $600 For $20 Shoes

What type of shopping do you enjoy doing? Do you prefer to go to the big box stores to look for a bargain or do you want to go to a high-end shop and spend extra money? This isn’t a question to make you feel guilty about feeling one way or another, there are both good and bad in either choice. If you happen to be somebody that loves shopping at the high-end boutiques, however, you still need to do your research and avoid overspending.

As an example, how much would you expect to pay for a quality pair of shoes from a reputable brand? More than likely, you would pay extra because you know you were getting quality. At the same time, if you find yourself sometimes paying extra for shoes that are inscribed with the brand of an unrecognizable designer, you may be falling victim to paying way too much money.

Payless shoe store is known for being at the forefront of offering discount shoes. They decided to show the dilemma of shopping at a high-quality store by conducting a unique social experiment. They put together a launch party for a fake brand of footwear, known as Palessi. They then invited a bunch of fashion influencers to come to check out the overly expensive, yet fake footwear.

When everyone came for the party, the store was stocked with Payless shoes but the prices were set at over $600 per pair for some of those discount items.

You probably wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the influencers went crazy for the fake designer shoes. They dropped hundreds of dollars to walk out of the store with some on their feet or in a bag. Payless decided to do more than just take their money, they filmed the entire scene, including the shocked reaction of those who overpaid for the footwear.

You can see the sneak peek of the new marketing campaign of Palessi in the video below. Just be warned, you may never look at discount footwear the same way again:
