If you’re like me, then you’re a person who doesn’t mind spoilers – in fact, you like them. I love a good spoiler. I know, it’s weird, but it’s how I enjoy stories more if I’m reading or watching something for meaning rather than for plot. Again, yes I know it’s weird. But I would never ever spoil a book or film for anyone else.
This wasn’t the case in a Hong Kong movie theatre, when a loud-mouth began shouting out major plot spoilers as a crowd waited to see the “Avengers: Endgame” film. The Marvel fans, upset by the spoilers ended up pummeling the man for ruining the film.
The spoil-sport, who remains anonymous, had just left one showing of the superhero movie in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, when he started sharing key plot moments with the people in line for the next showing. As Deadline reported, the movie-goers were infuriated with the man and some of them unleashed their inner Hulk, beating up the man.
A picture of the aftermath showed the man in a white t-shirt, propped up against a wall, being treated by a few people as blood was running down the side of his face.
According to the film’s directors, brothers Anthony and Joseph Russo, it’s a cardinal cinema sin to ruin movies for other people, so they made a special request on Twitter for fans to avoid spoiling the film for other fans.
The brothers posted a few days before the release: “Because so many of you have invested your time, your hearts, and your souls into these stories, we’re once again asking for your help. When you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it spoiled for you.”
“Endgame,” is the 22nd movie based in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as being the final outing for the Avengers. The film re-wrote the record books during its opening weekend, and according to Variety, it brought in $1.2 billion worldwide.
So who all has already seen it? And if you have, remember, no spoilers for others.
