We have seen some outrageous looks from Lady Gaga during her career. There was the one everyone was talking about the ‘meat suit’ she wore at the 2010 MTV Awards, the white lampshade, and the red lace ensemble that covered her face that she sported in 2009.
No matter where she goes or what she wears Gage is always expected to be totally bizarre. When she isn’t we are all amazed.
However, in her movie debut in A Star is Born she appears totally bare-faced throughout the entire movie.
No whacky outfits, no crazy color changing contacts, and not even a hint of makeup. Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, looks “normal” since we are always used to seeing her in her costumes.
It’s actually a funny story, Bradley Cooper suggested Gaga go makeup-free for the film…Cooper and Gaga recently discussed their upcoming movie on The Graham Norton Show.
“The fresh-faced look is simply “how the character is,” explained Cooper, who directed as well as starred in the film.”
The female lead played by Gage is supposed to look “normal” and plain. Ally is supposed to be an undiscovered star so it makes sense. It took Gaga some time to adjust to the requirements of the role.
During her audition, Cooper asked the Award-winning singer to remove all her make up. This made Gaga feel very uncomfortable.
She even tried to smuggle makeup onto the set!
She eventually warmed up to the idea of being an Ally rather than Gaga and embraced the role as well as the natural look.
“It put me in the right place I needed to be, because when my character talks about how ugly she feels – that was real,” she explained. “I’m so insecure. I like to preach, but I don’t always practice what I preach.”
So not only did Cooper encourage Gaga to set out she also pulled him out of his comfort zone during a dinner at her house.
“The next thing I know after I’m eating pasta, we’re singing in her living room,” Cooper revealed to Conan O’Brien recently.
>”It was crazy and she said, ‘Has anyone ever heard you sing before?’ I said, ‘No’ and she said, ‘Well let’s record it.’ So I recorded it on my phone and that was actually one of the first things when I was trying to pitch this movie to Warner Brothers, I showed them that video.”
It sounds like this film helped both Gaga and Cooper reveal parts of themselves that no one knew about.
We can see that Gaga is just a beautiful (if not even more) with or without makeup, who knows maybe she’ll embrace the look. Will we see her more often like this?
