It may come as a shock to many, but during an interview with Justin Bieber and his wife Haley Bieber (formerly Baldwin), they revealed they actually waited to consummate their marriage until the wedding night itself.
In an interview with Vogue Magazine, the newlyweds said that after they reconnected in May 2018, having dated on and off several years prior to that, they had remained complete celibate until they were officially married.
Justin claimed that his abstinence was all about connecting closer with God, even though he admits having had “a legtimitate problem with sex” as th magazine writes where it had become an addicion which had ceased to give him any pleasure.
He continued, “God doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff. He’s like, ‘I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain.’ I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to re-dedicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behaviour.”
The singer, best known for his hit “Baby” was said to have been abstaining for more than a year. He went on to say that his wanting to have sex with Haley played a large part in why their marriage occurred so early into their relationship.
But he added, “When I saw her last June, I just forgot how much I loved her and how much I missed her and how much of a positive impact she made on my life. I was like, ‘Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.'”
As the young couple posed in matching outfits for a shoot in the fashion magazine, it would be easy to think their marriage has been a breeze. However, the couple admitted that it hasn’t always been easy.
Twenty-two-year-old Hailey, daughter of Stephen Baldwin and Kennya Deodato, revealed, “The thing is, marriage is very hard. That is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard.”
She went on to add, “We’re two young people who are learning as we go. I’m not going to sit here and lie and say it’s all a magical fantasy. It’s always going to be hard. It’s a choice. You don’t feel it every single day. You don’t wake up every day saying, ‘I’m absolutely so in love and you are perfect.’ That’s not what being married is. But there’s something beautiful about it anyway – about wanting to fight for something, commit to building with someone.”
The pair was seen last September in what appeared to be them obtaining a marriage license after having been engaged for two months prior. It seemed like a whirlwind romance, but the couple go back a ways to nearly a decade of knowing each other.
Hailey even saw him perform back in 2009, but is adamant she wasn’t a ‘superfan’ of Justin’s at the time.
“I was never a superfan, of him or of anyone. It was never that crazed, screaming thing. I didn’t think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him.”
It always amazes me how life has a way of bringing couples together. We wish them all the best in this new chapter of their lives.
