Ben Affleck Releases Statement After His Third Stint in Rehab

UPDATE (10/5/18 at 7:33 a.m. ET):

Is third time the charm for Ben Affleck?

The actor has just completed a 40-day stint at an in-patient treatment center — his third time in rehab overall — and has released a statement thanking his family, friends and fans for supporting him on his journey.

“This week I completed a 40-day stay at a treatment center for alcohol addiction and remain in outpatient care,” he wrote on Instagram. “…Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family.”

He continued, “So many people have reached out on social media and spoken about their own journeys with addiction. To those people, I want to say thank you. Your strength is inspiring and supporting me in ways I didn’t think was possible.”

UPDATE (8/28/18 at 7:43 a.m. ET):

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have reached a divorce settlement — right as Ben has entered rehab, coincidentally.

The estranged spouses of ten years (who share three children) have settled their divorce, but won’t file it in court until Ben leaves treatment, according to E! News.

He voluntarily entered an in-patient facility last week for alcohol addiction — at Jen’s urging — and is expected to be there for at least the next 30 days.

Original story (8/23/18 at 11:23 a.m. ET):

Ben Affleck is getting help.

The Oscar-winning actor is entering rehab for the third time to get help with his alcohol addiction, TMZ was the first to report.

The news came after Ben’s ex-wife and mother of his kids, Jennifer Garner, was seen arriving at his home in Brentwood, California on Wednesday, August 22 for an intervention of sorts.

Us Weekly added that Ben’s sober coach also was present for the “intervention,” but it was he himself that decided he needed to go get help. All three then left the house together and reportedly drove Ben to his live-in treatment center in Los Angeles.

Just two days prior, the paparazzi spotted the father of three receiving an alcohol delivery to his home, seemingly containing Johnnie Walker Blue Label scotch and some other miscellaneous bottles. Apparently, this is what tipped Jen off and prompted their sit-down conversation.

And though the 46-year-old has reportedly been sober and attending AA meetings in addition to meditation classes, he might have his rumored new girlfriend, Playboy model Shauna Sexton, to blame for his relapse.

“Bourbon, for sure,” the 22-year-old told the magazine of her go-to drink. “I like whiskey and soda, which makes people cringe, but I like it.”

The two were spotted together twice recently at Nobu in Hollywood and again at a Jack in the Box drive-thru, leading to romance speculation. Their flirtiness was proof that Ben and Lindsay Shookus, his SNL producer girlfriend of over a year, had officially split.

Like Jen, Lindsay was there for the 46-year-old during his latest bout in treatment. He announced in March 2017 that he completed rehab, but that his sobriety was and always will be an ongoing battle.

“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,” he wrote on Facebook at the time.

“I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
