Bebe Rexha fires back at claims she’s ‘too old to be sexy’ after uploading photo to Instagram

There are few industries that are quite as ageist – and unapologetically so – as the entertainment industry. Be it modelling, singing, or acting, the glitzy and glamourous stars in the spotlight are appealing not just because of their talent, but also their youth.

There is a constant stream of young stars always up and coming, in order to replace their aging counterparts, with the older stars being pushed back into oblivion as “wash-ups” or “irrelevant.”

Recently, singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha – who is still in her 20s and hasn’t been on the scene that long – was called “too old to be sexy,” by some troll.

The 29-year-old “Meant To Be” singer went on Instagram on Monday in order to relay the story to her fans. She explained how she had recently been told by a music executive that she’s “too old to be sexy” and her image is “confusing” as a result.

Bebe isn’t exactly shy when it comes to haters and calling them out on their BS, so she was more than happy to respond to his comments by taking a scantily-clad photo of herself in lingerie, then posting it online – reminding herself and others that she’s sexy at any age.

“Picture dedicated to the music executive who said I am too old to be sexy,” she wrote along with the picture.

Her full sentiments are as follows:

“I recently had a music executive tell me that I was getting too old and that my brand was ‘confusing.’ Because… I’m a songwriter and I post sexy pics on my Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are supposed to do, especially for my age. I’m 29. I’m fed up with being put in a box. I make my own rules. I’m tired of women getting labeled as ‘hags’ when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age.”

Bebe also added that later this month she would be turning 30 – something she was not feeling anxious about at all.

She wrote, “I’m not gonna lie about my age or sing songs that I feel will sell better because they sound ‘younger’. I’m gonna celebrate my age because you know what, I’m wiser, I’m stronger and TRUST ME I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago.”

She concluded her post on a sassy note, asking the music exec, “Is this too sexy for you?”
