Alex Trebek Reveals The One Thing He Wishes He Could Go Back And Change In His Life

We’ve all be caught up to date on TV host Alex Trebek’s very unfortunate diagnosis. But not too long ago, the Jeopardy! host revealed something he wish he could go back and change: the day he met his wife. And it’s not as harsh as it sounds, as he explained his reasoning is actually quite sweet.

“I’m pretty satisfied with my life,” the Ontario native told People in January. “But my wife Jean and I have been together almost 29 years, and I was thinking about president Bush when he died, and all the comments about his life about what a nice guy he is, and how he and his wife had been together 73 years. I thought, ‘oh my gosh, if I’d just met Jean in my 20s we could have had a longer life together’.”

The long-time, iconic host of Jeopardy! joked, “I guess if I’d met her when I was in my 20s she wouldn’t have been born yet. But hey, 29 years is pretty good!”

Months following the People Magazine interview, Alex and Jean are now facing a threat to their future together: Alex’s recent cancer diagnosis.

Last Wednesday, the host shared with his viewers his heartbreaking news of being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

“Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United Sates each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” he said in his video message to fans.

Trebek has been hosting the show for the past 35 years, and he vowed to “fight” his disease while continuing to work.

“Now normally the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this and I’m going to keep working,” he said.

As Trebek faces his diagnosis head on, he seems determined as ever to remain positive, especially when looking to his future.

“And with the love and support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease,” he continued.

Thankfully, he wont be facing his fight alone. His wife Jean, 54, along with his two chidlresn Matthew, 29, and Emily, 27, are going to be helping him through every step of the way.

Jean talked to People in January about her husband Alex.

“He’s got a great sense of humor, she told them, “He takes his job very seriously, but wont take himself too seriously. He’s also youthful. He’s just an intelligent human being.”

She added, “Part of Alex’s staying youthful is his staying curious.”

Jean revealed that they were just friends for a while when they first met, but there was something about him that she couldn’t forget.

“There was this deep sensitivity about him with a gruffy exterior,” she shared. “I kept thinking ‘he’s 24 years older than me.’ But there was something that just kept drawing me to him.”

It’s always sweet to hear happily married people talk about each other. We are all pulling for Alex’s safe recovery so that he and Jean can enjoy many more years together.
